Welcome to Rice Solar Decathlon

Welcome to Rice University's entry for the 2009 Department of Energy Solar Decathlon.

To promote and publicize sustainable architecture and alternative energy technology, the Department of Energy sponsors the Solar Decathlon. Every two years, 20 teams from universities both in the United States and abroad, are awarded $100,000 grants to design and build 800 ft houses of original design that showcases sustainable and renewable design elements. Houses are judged on ten different characteristics –a decathlon– and are open to the public to tour in October of the last year of the competition on the Mall in Washington, D.C.

Rice University has been chosen as the only team to represent Texas in the DOE 2009 Solar Decathlon.
